What Are Secondary Commissions?

The Temu Affiliate Program operates on a two-tier commission structure. As a Tier-1 affiliate, you earn commissions on purchases made through your own referral links. But here's where it gets interesting: whenever you recruit another affiliate — a secondary affiliate — and they join the program under your referral, you earn a 20% bonus on top of their total commissions.

This is not a revenue share that reduces their earnings. Temu pays your 20% bonus on top, entirely from Temu's own budget. Your secondary affiliates earn 100% of their own commissions — you earn an additional 20% of that same number as a recruiting bonus.

💡
Key Point: It's Additive, Not Subtractive

If your secondary affiliate earns $1,000 this month, they keep $1,000. You earn $200 on top of that — funded entirely by Temu. Nobody loses.

How the Money Flows

Understanding the chain of value is critical for building your strategy. Here's the exact sequence from a customer purchase to your secondary commission deposit:

The bonus is calculated monthly and paid directly to your Temu affiliate wallet alongside your Tier-1 commissions. There's no separate application or tracking setup required — it's automatic once someone joins under your link.

Payout Differences: Tier 1 vs Emerging Markets

While the 20% secondary commission rate is consistent globally, the underlying commission amounts vary significantly between markets because average order values (AOV) and base commission rates differ by region. Understanding these differences lets you target your recruiting efforts strategically.

The "Your Secondary Bonus" column shows what YOU earn per $1,000 of GMV driven by one secondary affiliate in each market. The 20% rate is constant — the dollar figure varies based on the base commission rate in that region.

Emerging Market Strategy

While per-affiliate earnings are lower in emerging markets, the volume opportunity is enormous. Nigeria alone has 220M+ people with rapidly growing smartphone adoption. 50 affiliates in Lagos can match 10 in London on a volume basis — and competition for recruits is far lower.

Recruiting Strategy: Where to Start

Tier 1 Markets: High Value, High Competition

US, UK, and EU affiliates generate the highest commissions per recruit, making them the most valuable to your secondary income. The tradeoff is competition — these markets have the most affiliate marketers already. Your pitch needs to be sharp: lead with Temu's no-cost entry, fast approval, and the fact that you're supporting their setup.

Emerging Markets: Volume Play

LATAM, SEA, and Africa represent a massive untapped opportunity. Most affiliate recruiters ignore these markets because of lower per-order values — which means you face almost no competition. A Brazilian influencer with 50,000 followers or a Filipino Facebook group admin with 200,000 members can drive extraordinary volume. At scale, emerging market networks can easily outperform a handful of Tier 1 recruits.

🎯
Recommended Mix for New Recruiters

Start with 3–5 Tier 1 recruits for reliable early income, then aggressively pursue emerging markets for volume. Aim for a 30/70 split (Tier 1 / Emerging) within your first 90 days.
